Unfortunately the West Malling Site is in part a listed building and in great need of repair, one of the down sides to having a listed building is that it costs more to repair due to limitation on changes that can be done. Coupled with this the building has been developed several times in the past and due to increasing and important health and safety and other regulations the office areas are not suitable for long term purpose of a commercial building. This has been documented and sent to West Kent CCG many times over the last few years. We are in discussions with West Kent CCG to create a long term sustainable premises and care plan for the ever increasing patient area we have that spans Kings Hill, West Malling and Leybourne.
Our plan since May 2017 is to sell the present West Malling site BUT it is “to keep a presence on West Malling High Street” after the sale of the site. But the majority of the business is moved to our other two sites of Leybourne and Kings Hill including all the back office admin staff that present are situated at West Malling. Our Kings Hill sits half empty at present so the majority of the business could move here as it is commercial building with lifts and is in a good state of repair. The sale of West Malling is part of a bigger puzzle to ensure the local populations Primary Care needs can be accommodated not just today but that we ensure we have a 5 and 10 year plan based around local developments.
Several local organisations have been informed of this during 2017 including West Malling Parish Council, our PPG have it documented in minutes of meetings from the summer 2017.
